The 107th Session of the International Labour Conference took place from 28 May – 08 June 2018 in the Palais des Nations and ILO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. One of the items on the agenda was violence and harassment against women and men in the world of work. A topic which should always deserve our attention.
This year WOW was present with three persons, i.e. Roel Rotshuizen, Maritza Chireno, and Bjørn van Heusden. Particularly for Maritza Chireno the debates dealing with the situation in Venezuela are of great importance. Aside the work of the committees an number of bilateral meetings took place. Very positive was the meeting with the Alternativa Democrática Sindical de las Américas (ADS) and the representatives of the WOW. It was the second meeting of its kind in which a future coordination of actions was discussed. Another meeting was the lunch-meeting with members of the European Centre of Workers Questions (EZA) present.
During the conference itself a resolution was adopted which demands for the ILO Director-General to prepare an action-plan to implement the conclusions adopted by the Committee and further communicate these to organizations of relevance. These conclusions state the guiding principles and present a roadmap for future ILO development cooperation. It is expected to better equip the ILO in supporting its Members and in participating in more joined up UN responses to country priorities with a wide range of partners. It will be good when the ILO further promotes the important work that it is doing.
