With great success the 26th Statutory Congress of the National Association of Journalists of Peru – ANP (Asociación Nacional de Periodistas del Perú – ANP) took place bringing together more than 250 accredited delegates who, on behalf of the 106 provincial associations of the media, met in the city of Tumbes, Peru.
The 26th Statutory Congress represents the most important meeting for social communicators from across the country.
Highlight was the presence of journalist Jeremy Dear (United Kingdom), Deputy Secretary General of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), who opened the 26th National Congress of the ANP.
Additionally to Miguel Duche (Argentina), vice-president of the World Organisation of Workers; José Rivera (Ecuador), leading University Professor and expert in digital communication; together with Roberto Coluccio (Argentina), of the Latin American Federation of Workers in Banks and Financial Institutions – FELATRABS (Federación Latinoamericana de Trabajadores Bancarios de Seguros y Afines – FELATRABS); as well as Dr. Miguel Jugo, of the National Coordinator for Human Rights – CNDDHH (Coordinadora Nacional de Derechos Humanos (CNDDHH).
The decisions were taken democratically after intense hours of work and agreements essential for the defence of the freedom of expression in the country, and the unrestricted respect for the rights of the workers in social communication of the Peru.
After voting, the new Executive Committee of the ANP for the period 2018-2021 was composed.
Roberto Marcos Mejía Alarcón was re-elected as president.
