In the presence of numerous national and international political and trade union guests of honour, the Christian Trade Union Confederation of Germany (CGB) carried out its 16th Statutory Congress in Berlin on 9 and 10 November. Under the motto #Für dich-CGB! (#For you-CGB!) the CGB combined its traditional trade union values of the Christian Social teachings, notably solidarity, respect, tolerance and personal responsibility with the requirements of the modern, increasingly digitized world of work. Especially in the modern world of work these values must not be put behind the economic interests, on the contrary the trade union work must concentrate more on preserving the moral values, to put the people in the foreground instead of the occupational and economic interests. The human-being and his/her needs must be in line with the needs of working life.
The elections resulted in a change in the leadership of the CGB. After the longtime CSU-Bundestag parliamentarian Matthäus Strebl, after 14 years in office, had renounced another term due to health reasons, the delegates elected Adalbert Ewen, president of the Christian Trade Union Metal (Christlichen Gewerkschaft Metall – CGM) – the largest individual CGB trade union – as new president of the CGB.
The WOW congratulates Adalbert Ewen with his election as new president of the CGB.
