CLAC-WOW stands in solidarity with the demands of workers and popular organizations in Peru

The social convulsion that Peru has been suffering as a consequence of a serious political crisis that, to date, has not been solved, shows the painful balance of 60 people murdered during the protests that, almost 2 months ago, were carried out by thousands of citizens, both from the main southern regions and from the capital of the republic. To this is added the million-dollar losses in the country’s productive apparatus, which has a particular impact on the segments, already precarious, of two thirds of a population of more than 33 million inhabitants.

Added to this kind of anomy, which can be called the empowerment of what the “culture of death” means, is a dangerous economic crisis, which practically deepens the paralysis of jobs in industry, commerce and the services. In this context the most affected are those who live exclusively on the scarce income from formal and informal work.

Faced with this chaotic situation, the Latin American-Caribbean Coordination of the World Organization of Workers – CLAC-WOW (Coordinadora Latinoamérica-Caribe de la Organización Mundial de Trabajadores – CLAC-WOW) expresses its rejection of the attitude of those who, from the political apparatus of governance, turn a deaf ear to the demands of the popular sectors, who through public protests demand that through constitutional and democratic means, changes be carried out in the mandate of the presidency of the Republic and in the Legislative representation.

Given that the most recent scrutiny of public opinion indicates that the current leaders do not have credibility and, therefore, the legitimacy to govern and that, at the same time, there is a risk of worsening the political, economic and social crisis, CLAC- WOW calls on organizations that defend human rights from all over the civilized world, to actively participate, through social networks, in a humanitarian campaign that makes possible the political solution of a serious political problem of ungovernability in this Andean country, whose population suffered the most serious attacks of Covid-19.
