The Christian Trade Union Confederation of Germany welcomes the coalition compromise on the introduction of a basic pension.
This not only provides effective protection against old-age poverty and recognizes the lifetime achievement of low-income earners. Above all, it is an expression of the performance principle: work is also worthwhile in terms of old-age provision, and older workers are better off in old age than the long-term unemployed.
In the further embodiment the legislator is required to prevent new injustices by introducing appropriate stipulations. A pensioner, who worked part-time for 35 years cannot be better off than a full-time worker, who has only 34 years of contributions.
No funds may be withdrawn from the pension fund to finance the basic pension. Likewise, no increase in pension contributions may be made. The basic pension must thus be permanently paid in full from the general tax revenue.
